Who should attend?

  • This course aims to provide a comprehensive knowledge of the FPSO utilities (topside and hull): description, technology and operating mode.
Public :
  • Novice engineers, technicians and staff whose activities are directly or indirectly related to the design and/or operation of a FPSO and its subsea system (production, maintenance, marine, operation, subsea, design enginery, contractor, manufacturing…).

Level :Knowledge

Prerequisite :
  • 2 months experience in Oil & Gas industry.

Course Content

      • Each presentation of an utility system includes the following content: objectives, production generation, description, control systems, networks and users, critical situations.
  • UTILITIES PRESENTATION

  • AIR PRODUCTION - Duration : 0.25 Day

      • Air service and air instrument.
      • Air treatment, distribution and consumers.
  • HEATING & COOLING SYSTEM - Duration : 0.5 Day

      • Heating system: heat supply means (WHRU - Heaters), heating medium loop description and heat consumers.
      • Cooling system:
      • Seawater lifting pumps, filters and heat exchangers.
      • Cooling water loop description and cool consumers.
  • UTILITIES RELATED TO SAFETY - Duration : 1.25 Days

      • Inert Gas IG system: objectives of IG use, IG production (IG generator, flue gas), IG network and consumers.
      • Nitrogen system: nitrogen generators (molecular sieves, selective membrane), storage, network, control and consumers.
      • Flares: flaring objectives, safety release devices HP, LP flare networks. Sonic, subsonic tips types. Flare tip ignition.
      • Safety and escape systems: main firefighting protection system, emergency response plan, mustering and escape means.
      • HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning system: HVAC function, typical central air handling unit arrangement. Refrigeration cycle.
  • BALLAST - Duration : 0.25 Day

      • Ballast uses and objectives. Ballast network description and operating.
  • ENERGY FOR TURBINES, ENGINES, ASSISTANCE BOATS, HELICOPTERS - Duration : 0.75 Day

      • Power generation systems: different sources of electricity production, electrical network, load sharing.
      • Fuel Gas FG system: FG sources, treatment. Network and consumers.
      • Fuel Oil FO system: FO in absence of FG. FO supply, treatment, storage and consumers.
      • Fuel Jet system: jet supply and transfer, storage and sampling and test, helicopter refueling.
  • CHEMICAL PRODUCTS SYSTEM - Duration : 0.5 Day

      • Topside and subsea chemicals: chemicals supply and tote tanks transfer, storage and tanks blanketing, pumps arrangement and IRCD Injection Rate Control Devices.
      • Methanol: methanol supply by chemical tanker in tandem mode, storage and injection for preservation.
      • LDHI (Low Dosage Hydrate Inhibitor): LDHI in place of methanol; LDHI supply, storage and injection for preservation.
  • SEA WATER USES - Duration : 0.5 Day

      • Industrial and potable water systems: seawater desalination methods (distillation and reverse osmosis), process for industrial and potable water, storage and distribution to consumers.
      • Electro-chlorination system: electrolysis of the seawater, electrolytic cells and unit, storage of hypochlorite solution and distribution.
  • DRAINS SYSTEMS - Duration : 1 Day

      • Closed and opened drains systems: open and closed drains sources and recovering; slop tanks, water treatment and disposal; MARPOL regulation (ODME Oil Discharge Monitoring Equipment).
      • Sewage system: MARPOL regulation, living quarter waters recovery, waters treatment and disposal.
      • Bilge and sludge system: MARPOL regulation; machinery room draining system; bilge and sludge recovery, storage, treatment and disposal.

Learning Objectives

  • Attendees will be able to implement the following skills:
  • Provide knowledge of the systems,
  • Bringing the energy necessary for the running of the topside process and hull equipment,
  • Managing the secondary products and the discharges of the process systems.
