  • This course aims to consolidate mathematics, physics, chemistry and mechanics fundamentals required to attend IFP Training’s Production Field Operator certification or other technical courses for operators.

  • OVERVIEW OF OIL & GAS PRODUCTION

  • APPLIED MATHEMATICS FOR OIL & GAS PRODUCTION OPERATIONS - Duration : 5 Days

      • Powers and roots. Solving first degree equations, first degree inequalities. Functional relations.
      • Numerical equalities and inequalities.
  • SYSTEMS & MOTIONS - Duration : 0.5 Day

      • Units and international system.
      • Time, position/trajectory, velocity, acceleration.
  • FORCE & ASSOCIATED QUANTITIES - Duration : 1.5 Days

      • Force, mass, weight.
      • Specific gravity, density, °API.
      • Pressure, buoyancy.
      • Moment of a force, torque.
      • Energy, work and power.
  • FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTRICITY - Duration : 2 Days

      • Current, intensity and voltage.
      • Resistor, electric power, generator and receiver.
  • THERMAL PHYSICS - Duration : 2 Days

      • Temperature and heat.
      • Specific heat and latent heat.
      • Combustion and calorific power.
  • WELL EFFLUENT CHARACTERIZATION & FLUID FLOW - Duration : 1.5 Days

      • Introduction to notions of GOR, BSW…
      • Flow, flow regimes and viscosity.
      • Principles of metrology, introduction to laboratory analyzes applied to Oil & Gas industry.
  • FUNDAMENTALS OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY - Duration : 2 Days

      • Atom, molecule, counting matter.
      • Nomenclature, hydrocarbon groups and physical properties.
      • Chemical reaction.
  • INORGANIC CHEMISTRY - FUNDAMENTALS OF AQUEOUS SOLUTION CHEMISTRY - Duration : 1.5 Days

      • Acids/bases and pH.
      • Red-Ox chemistry.
      • Corrosion phenomena. Different types of corrosion encountered in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • PHYSICAL PHENOMENA OF THE SEPARATION PROCESSES - Duration : 2 Days

      • Liquid-liquid separation; application to the separation of oil and water:
      • Gravity settling and parameters that can improve process efficiency: concept of retention time; apparent density, introduction to the principle of flotator; centrifugal force, introduction to the operating principle of hydrocyclones; temperature…
      • Emulsion and foams notions - Stability and emulsion breaking.
      • Liquid-gas separation; application to oil stabilization: flash separation principles; multi stage separation; fundamentals of distillation, absorption and stripping.
  • MATERIALS USED IN OIL & GAS INDUSTRY - Duration : 2 Days

      • Generality on piping; fittings, flanges, seals. Main materials used in production facilities.
      • Introduction to valves, safety valves, insulation devices.
      • Introduction to static equipment technology: flash drum (separator, scrubber...); absorption or stripping column; heat exchangers...
      • Introduction to rotating machine function & technology: pumps and compressors.
  • SYMBOLIZATION, SCHEMATICS & INDUSTRIAL DRAWINGS - Duration : 2 Days

      • Industrial drawings, dimensions and standards.
  • MECHANICAL PARTS OF ROTATING MACHINERY - Duration : 2 Days

      • Bearing and trust bearings.
      • Coupling and gears.
      • Lubrication.

Learning Objectives

  • Attendees will be able to implement the following skills:
  • Reach the prerequisite academic level in mathematics, physics, chemistry and mechanics applied to Oil & Gas industry in order to attend technical courses,
  • Understand the basics of Oil & Gas production,
  • Explain the main physical phenomena governing well effluent treatment processes,
  • Identify the main static and rotary equipment of the production facilities and indicate their function.

Ways & Means

  • Numerous application exercises inspired from Oil & Gas production operations.

Learning assessment

  • Assessment by test at the end of each week.
