Who should attend?

  • The aim of this training is to increase employee awareness of the impact and negative effects of a stuck pipe incident and to provide the knowledge necessary for good prevention but also to have the skills to intervene, supervise and properly plan stuck pipe operations in a well.
Public :
  • This training is for all personnel involved in drilling or workover operations: engineers, supervisors, driller, assistant driller and operators involved in the execution, supervision or planning of operations on water, geothermal or oil/gas wells.

Level :Skilled

Prerequisite :
  • Basic knowledge in drilling operations, drill bit, drill string as well as basic mathematic skills.

  • CONSEQUENCES OF STUCK PIPE INCIDENT - Duration : 0.5 Day

      • Impacts.
      • Statistics.
      • Causes.
      • Basic rules.
  • STUCK PIPE MECHANISMS - Duration : 1.5 Days

      • Differential sticking.
      • Solids induced pack off.
      • Mechanical and wellbore geometry.
  • DRILL STRING, MUD & HOLE CLEANING - Duration : 1 Day

      • Characteristics and limits of the drill string.
      • Margin of over-pull.
      • Roles and characteristics of the drilling mud.
      • Solids control equipment.
      • Hole cleaning.
  • METHODS TO FREE THE DRILL STRING - Duration : 0.75 Day

      • First actions for the driller.
      • Use of drilling jars.
      • Reduction of the differential pressure.
      • Use of lubricant pills.
  • PREVENTIVE MEASURES - Duration : 0.25 Day

      • Listen to the hole.
      • Good drilling practices while drilling and tripping.
      • Teamwork and monitoring.
  • FISHING EQUIPMENT - Duration : 0.5 Day

      • Description, function and correct use of fishing equipment.
  • HISTORY CASES - Duration : 0.25 Day

      • Identify stuck pipe mechanisms and analyze the causes.
  • FINAL TEST
