  • This course provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of methods and issues related to evaluation of hydrocarbons reserves (PRMS, SEC) and a deep understanding of risks & uncertainties related to reserves evaluation and how to assess/mitigate these risks.
Learning Objectives
  • Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
  • discuss principles of reservoir characterization and reserves evaluation,
  • define and classify reserves and resources based on Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC),
  • define the petroleum economic criteria which affect the reserve definition,
  • discuss main concepts of risks and uncertainties management and identify main sources of risks and uncertainties,
  • discuss methods about integrating risks and uncertainties into reserves evaluation: static uncertainties, dynamic uncertainties, geostochastic modeling, etc.

RESERVES DEFINITIONS

  • Oil & Gas reserve/resource definitions.
  • SPE definitions and principles. Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS).
  • SEC definitions and guidelines.
  • Comparison of PRMS and SEC.
  • Other definitions.

RESERVES ESTIMATIONS & PRODUCTION PROFILES

  • Performance analysis:
  • Analogs.
  • Material balance.
  • Decline curves analysis.
  • Simulation models.
  • Criteria of performance analysis methods.

PETROLEUM ECONOMICS

  • Fundamentals of petroleum economics.
  • Cash flow before and after tax.
  • Economic selecting criteria (NPV, IRR, PI…).
