  • This course presents the most critical choices and different HSE constraints to cope with in order to deliver surface production facilities that meet the various stakeholders’ objectives.
Audience :
  • Engineers who already have a global understanding of Oil & Gas Projects and need to further develop their knowledge of the main challenges associated with the construction of surface facilities.

  • OVERVIEW OF OIL & GAS PRODUCTION & PROCESSING

      • Well effluents behavior. Fundamentals of reservoir and drive mechanisms. Fundamentals of drilling, completion and well performance. Well effluent transportation, flow assurance and prevention of gas hydrates. Crude oil processing. Treatment of produced and injected water. Gas processing and conditioning. Liquefied natural gas.
  • STATIC EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY & SIZING

      • Piping systems. Flare/vent systems. Open/closed drain systems. Heat exchangers. Design and sizing of crude oil processing equipment.
  • ROTATING EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY & SELECTION

      • Pumps. Fundamentals of gas compression and expansion. Compressors and expanders. Gas turbines.
  • SAFETY ENGINEERING

      • Fundamentals of safety engineering. HAZID, HAZOP and major hazard assessment. Layer of protection. Plot plan review. Prevention of hydrocarbon release, ignition and fore escalation. Engineering of emergency escape and evacuation resources. Inherently safer plant design. Consequence analysis methodology. Quantitative risk assessment. Safety instrumented systems. Integrity of HSE critical equipment. Design of fire and gas detection systems. Active and passive fire protection. Human factors and human errors. Documented evidence requirements.
  • CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES

      • Civil and structural works. Electrical works. Structure. Piping. Cathodic protection and painting. Cranes and lifting operations on site.
  • PRECOMMISSIONING, COMMISSIONING & START-UP

      • Project presentation. Precommissioning: mechanical completion. Commissioning activities. Start-up.
  • HSE IN CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

      • Operations and HSE. Main hazards of hydrocarbon processing. Risk assessment tools. Job safety analysis. Permit to work system procedure. Hazard identification and risk assessment of maintenance and construction works. Environmental management in maintenance and construction operations. Organizational framework - Human factors. Audits - Means of improving the HSE performance.
  • SIMULTANEOUS OPERATIONS

      • Introduction to SIMultaneous OPerationS (SIMOPS). SIMOPS process. Undertaking SIMOPS and management framework. Monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • PROJECT CONTROL

      • Project control function. Project stakeholders. Costs. Schedule. Value analysis and risks. Performance assessment round-up, procurement and changes.
  • HSE MANAGEMENT OF CONTRACTORS

      • Overview of HSE elements in contractor management process. Tender process. Elements of HSE evaluation. Contractual framework. HSE management during execution. Environmental and societal aspects of contractor management. Contractor final evaluation.
  • HSE MANAGEMENT OF LOGISTICS

      • Land transportation. Marine and river transportation. Air transportation. Storage.
  • NEGOTIATION SKILLS

      • Methodology and application to projects. Arguments and searching for a compromise. Claim management. Influence games and group dynamics.

Learning Objectives

  • Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
  • manage construction phases: engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning,
  • master technology, operating constraints and maintenance of static and rotating equipment,
  • identify the hazards and assess the risks associated to construction activities,
  • establish the responsibilities of each actor regarding HSE subjects,
  • apply different methods and tools to effectively control projects,
  • plan and organize the start-up and acceptance of processing units with respect to specific constraints,
  • negotiate technical service contracts for large Oil & Gas projects.
