A partner of excellencefor oil and gas professional development

IFP School's "Oil & Gas" MOOC supported by Total exceeds all expectations,
with 21,800 participants

Paris, 30 July 2015 – The first MOOC1 focusing on the oil and gas industry: "Oil & Gas: from exploration to distribution" is now closed. It has been a great success, with:

  • 21,800 participants – well above the 5,000 expected –, from 140 different countries
  • A pass rate of 28 %, i.e. 4 times higher than the average for MOOCs

This resounding success is the result of the combined efforts of three of the sector's leading and complementary players, IFP School, IFP Training and Total, who set out to provide as many people as possible with an appealing, free educational program covering the whole oil and gas chain: players, the economy, issues and challenges, oil and gas discovery and production, transformation into refined products and distribution

The rest was down to the digital experience: collaborative forums providing an ideal platform for a wealth of interactions between students and professionals from countries across four continents (including Nigeria, Uganda, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, among others) proved very popular. The introduction of innovative educational tools designed to be both interactive and fun – such as mini-games alongside traditional quizzes – also served to reinforce the appeal of this MOOC

Following this success, a second MOOC session is currently being considered for 2016
